CALLAHAN, Jerry Wayne. – age 82, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 3, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 11AM Friday, May 8, 2015 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Clio. Pastor Erik Cloeter officiating. Burial in West Vienna Cemetery. Family will receive visitors at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio on Thursday from 2-8PM and at the church on Friday from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM. Those desiring may make contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
Jerry was born in Senath, Missouri July 28, 1932 to the late William and Flora (Shields) Callahan, moving to Michigan in his late teens. Jerry had a passion for old country music and helping his neighbors. He had an endless supply of gum or candy for his grandchildren when their parents weren’t looking. Jerry had a strong work ethic that kept him active long after retirement.
Jerry retired from Buick Division of General Motors after 50 years of service, completing his career in Product Engineering. He was a lifelong farmer and also enjoyed fishing and camping. Jerry loved the outdoors and being surrounded by his family. Leaving behind many to cherish his memory, he will be remembered for his bib overalls, dusty baseball cap and big grin atop one of his beloved tractors.
Married to Joyce Callahan for over 35 years, he is survived by: Sons: Daniel K. Callahan and Dennis W. Callahan; Grandchildren: Danielle (Brian) Sheaffer, Justin (Lisa) Callahan, Ashleigh (David) Stahr and Robert Callahan; Great-grandchildren: Logan Sholty, Alison Sheaffer and Emily Callahan; Siblings: Ollie McDaniel, Joe (Lady) Callahan, Amy Vaughn, Butch Callahan and Shirley (Chester) Nething; Many nieces, nephews and special family friend, Debra Kauten. Jerry was preceded in death by his siblings: Julia Parker, Tootie Emenhiser, Jim Callahan and Jane Callahan; Brothers in law: Ernest Parker, Alvin McDaniel, Gerald Vaughn; Grandson in law, Daniel Sholty.
