Frank was born July 31, 1926 to parents Frank and Katherine Marta who preceded him in death.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Donna Marta on September 3, 2010. He is survived by children Justine (Ken) Mushall, Micky (Ken) Makuch, Suzanne (David) Joseph and Stephen Marta. In addition he is survived by grandchildren Jodi (Ken) Dunn, Christopher (Hillary) Mushall, Carrie Nelson, Eric (Amy) Mushall, Ryan (Jamie) Joseph, Marta Joseph, Matthew Joseph and “Special Bulldog Grandchildren” Lucy and Bassil. Nine great grandchildren, Gracyn, Viviana and Donna Jean Dunn, Jaylynn, Bella, Sydney and Julian Joseph, Teagan Mushall and Nicolas Mushall. Frank was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Taylor in September, 2007.
Frank was the Patriarch of three generations of family who frequently sought out his counsel and guidance. Frank played football for St. Mary’s football team in the early 1940’s and was the starting Guard for the 1942 Championship team. He went on to play football and hockey at Michigan Tech University and was inducted into the Flint Sports Hall of Fame in 2005. Frank was a World War II veteran and proudly served his county as part of the Air Force Division. Formerly the owner of Marta Heating and Air Conditioning, he instilled a strong work ethic and high level of integrity in his children and grandchildren. Born to Italian Immigrants, he utilized his cooking skills to create “Sunday Spaghetti Dinner” which was a coveted family event that packed the Marta home. Frank’s “gruff” exterior always gave way to his “inner softness” and even the youngest of his great grandchildren weren’t fooled by his “bark”. His trademark was his beloved cigars –there was nothing he loved more than lighting up a great cigar with his son-in-laws and friends. Throughout his life Frank was always the defender of the “underdog” and would assist anyone he could – at any time – without a moment’s hesitation. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Frank’s memory to his favorite organizations: St. Jude’s Hospital and “Boomers Animal Rescue Fund” C/O Briarwood Veterinary Hospital – 8213 S. Saginaw Rd, Grand Blanc, MI 48439.
