PENROD, John A. – Of Davison, age 68, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, after a brain aneurysm at McLaren-Flint.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, J.W. Cox, uncle of John, officiating.
Those desiring may make contributions to the family.
Visitation 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
John was born in Cape Girardeau, MO on October 6, 1945, the son of the late Andy and Mildred (Cox) Penrod and was a resident of the Flint area most of his life.
John married Kathryn Crank on August 17, 1973 in Flint.
John retired from General Motors UAW in 1994, after 30 years of service.
John was a proud member of UAW Local #598 and loved serving the members of the UAW Local #598.
John began his rise through the union ranks after starting as a production worker at the former Chevrolet Assembly Plant on Van Slyke Road in 1964. During his tenure, he served in many capacities, starting as an Alternate Committee Man, committee Man, Vice President and President of UAW Local #598.
John was appointed to the International Union as an International Representative. He held this position until his retirement.
John was very proud to be awarded the Walter P. Reuther Distinguished Service Award by the membership of Local #598. He was a member of North Newberg Masonic Lodge.
John enjoyed golfing, camping, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are wife, Kathryn;
daughter, Kindra (Gordon) Nichols and their children, Kaylia and Zackery and great-grandson, Brody;
son, Johnny (Valerie) Penrod;
daughter, Pam Penrod;
son, Scott Penrod;
also survived by grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brothers, Rodney (Pat) Penrod and David; sister, Nancy Willis and half-sister, Lori Ann.
He was preceded in death by parents; mother-in-law, Carol Crank Chase and “special buddy", grandson, Nicholas Joel.
