Of Flint, age 88, died Friday, September 2, 2011 at Select Specialty Hospital-Flint. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 am, Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Thomas Nenneau and Rev. Fr. George Puthenpeedika will concelebrate with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Lillian's family will be present to receive friends at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services Monday, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Tuesday from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Tuesday evening, family, friends and parish will gather to pray the Rosary at 6:30 pm. On Wednesday Lillian will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to the St. Mary Catholic School, Holy Rosary Catholic School or Luke M. Powers Catholic High School. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church.
Lillian was born December 26, 1922, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John and Anna (Golonka) Kowalczyk. She and Frank McCarthy were united in marriage June 11, 1955, in Flint, Michigan. He preceded her in death August 28, 2005. Lillian worked for Chevrolet - Flint MFG for 13 ½ years and Mt. Morris Township Treasurer's Office for 6 ½ years. She was a member of the Industrial Business Girls, St. Mary’s Altar Society and the St. Francis Guild.
Lillian enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, going out to eat and sharing stories.
Left to cherish her memory are six children, Mike and Mary Ann McCarthy, Jay and wife, Elaine McCarthy, Patti Clark, Matt and wife, Mary McCarthy, Mary and husband, Eric Salgat and
Marita and husband, Willy Mena; 20 grandchildren; 3 siblings, Dorothy Allen, Mary Ann and husband, Ralph Etue, Bob Kowalczyk; brother-in-law, Leo Paro and several nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; son-in-law, Rick Clark; two brothers, John Kowalcyk and Jim Kowalczyk; sister, Dolores Paro; sisters-in-law, Eileen Kowalczyk and Inez Kowalcyk and brother-in-law, George Allen.
