PIPPINS, Mr. Frank Wardell - Age 92, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2019 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at Triumph Church - Flint Campus, 1657 Broadway Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor Lawrence Vaughn, officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, 5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Wednesday. Mr. Pippins will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Tuesday, with family present to receive friends from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM.
Mr. Frank Wardell Pippins was born September 16, 1927 in West Memphis, Arkansas, the son of George and Katie (Diggs) Pippins. Frank accepted Christ at an early age in Leland, MS where he grew up. He later joined the United States Navy in 1946. Frank moved to Flint, Michigan in 1951. He was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Ella Rawls in 1952 and from this union, 6 children were born. Frank enjoyed helping others and lived according to St. Mark 12:31 “Love you neighbor as yourself.” He was the true epitomy of fatherhood and brotherhood. Frank was as Moses was to the children of Israel, a true Patriarch to the Pippins family. His legacy shall continue through the Pippins generation. Mr. Frank Wardell Pippins leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Wendy (Sam) Pippins-Simon; 4 sons, Perry (Marcia) Pippins, Anthony (Deborah) Pippins, Philander (Linda) Pippins and Gary (Debra) Pippins; 17 grandchildren, Torey (Regina) Pippins, Sharita (Anthony) Allen, Marcus Richmond, Natwana Toles, Laketa Pippins, Andrea (Markedus) Hall, Michelle Young, Monquez Pippins, LaShawna Pippins, Philana (Darien) Coolin, Jason Jupree, Deon Vaughn, Shandel (Shawn) Massey, Perry (Tracy) Pippins, LaShonte Pippins, Tashara Pippins and Tiauna Pippins; 30 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Johnson of Indianola, MS; 4 sisters-in-law, Mazie Murphy, Bertha Rawls, Catherine Martin and Vickie Rawls; brother-in-law, Thomas (Karen) Rawls; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including special friends, Mack Fairly and Alious Bates. Mr. Pippins was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Pippins; son, Dewayne Pippins; 3 grandchildren, Shavaunte’ Pippins, Tireo “Shawn” Hodo and Camonte Pippins; parents, George and Katie Pippins; sister, Lenzola White; 3 brothers, Mark Pippins, Philander Pippins and George Pippins. The family would like to express special thanks to Ideal Home Health Services, Hurley Medical Center, Amy & 9th Floor nurses, Dr. Beer, Dr. Sattar and staff, Triumph Church-Flint Campus family, Phyllis Childress and Joann Wilson.
