Mitchell, William D. Jr. of Flushing, age 82, died Thursday, November 12, 2015, at his residence. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to leaderdog.org.
William was born in Flint, Michigan on November 18, 1932, the son of Grace Helen (Weaver) and William Mitchell, Sr. Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Roberta “Bobbie” Myers on November 27, 1954. He attended Michigan State University and spent his career as a Product Designer at Buick Motor Division in the Powertrain Department, retiring in 1987. Bill had a passion for the outdoors. He loved reading and animals, especially his golden retriever, Luke. William was known to have a great sense of humor. He never drank a beer he didn't like.
Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Roberta “Bobbie”; daughter, Susan and husband Steve Johnson of California; sisters, Joyce Rentschler, Karyn Mitchell Pilon; sister-in-laws, Joan Marzonie, Beverley Shomsky; brother-in-law, Jack and wife Ruth Myers, Tom Myers; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Ted Marzonie, Joe Shomsky and Virgil Rentschler.
