GEKELER, Gerald M. – of Montrose, age 100 and 1 day, died Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Fostrian Manor. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Friday, August 16, 2013 at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. Chaplain Don Bennett officiating. Burial to follow in Montrose Township Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 1-8PM and on Friday from 12 noon until time of services at 1 PM. Contributions may be made to the Montrose Township Senior Center.
Gerald was born August 13, 1913 in Lapeer, MI to the late Frank and Edna (Youngs) Gekeler. He lived in Mt. Morris for 35 years, then Harrisville for over 29 years, and moved to Montrose in 2003. He married Gladys Stickney on September 14, 1935 in Flint. She preceded him in death on November 5, 2003. Mr. Gekeler retired from Buick as a Millwright in 1974. He was a member of the Montrose Senior Center, the UAW Local #599 and a former member of the Haynes Community Church. He enjoyed his 80 acres in Harrisville.
Surviving are: children-Patsy (Donald) Swart of Montrose, Daniel (Judith) Gekeler of Morley, Michael (Linda) Gekeler of National City, Thomas (Nancy) Gekeler of Dexter, ME, Matthew Gekeler of Montrose; 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren; sister, Winifred Woodrich of Flushing; nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by: a brother, Paul Gekeler; a sister, Dorothy Irene Plantz; and a daughter in law, Deborah Gekeler.
