KOVARIK, William Charles - age 87, of Swartz Creek, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Avalon Hospice. Services will be held 11 AM Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Swartz Creek United Methodist Church, 7400 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek with Rev. Kevin Harbin officiating. Interment will follow at Flushing Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5-9 PM Thursday and 12-5 and 6-9 PM Friday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Swartz Creek United Methodist Church. Mr. Kovarik was born January 20, 1925 in Swartz Creek, the son of Frank and Elizabeth (Petrucha) Kovarik. He married Phyllis Ann Shipley on September 3, 1949 and she preceded him in death on March 22, 1998. Mr. Kovarik was veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theatre in the U.S. Navy as a Petty Officer 2nd Class and was a life member of Flushing VFW Post 5666 and Flushing American Legion Post 283 where he served on the Honor Guard. He retired from General Motors Parts Division in 1980 after 33 1/2 years of service. Mr. Kovarik was a member of Swartz Creek United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men's group. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing and was known by the local farmers as the Coyote Hunter. Mr. Kovarik also enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and friends. Surviving are: two sons, Thomas (Judy) Kovarik of Owosso; Charles (Raquel) Kovarik of Swartz Creek; daughter, Ann (Roger) Brimley of Flushing; seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sister, Marion Hebekeuser; sister-in-law, Marion Kovarik; many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John, Frank and Edward; sister, Helen Fuller; great-grandson, Kurt. The family extends a special thank you to the staff of Avalon Hospice and Durand Senior Care and Rehab for their care and support.
