KOONS, Dale, of Flushing, age 89, died Sunday, June 9, 2019, at McLaren-Flint. Funeral services will be 1 pm Thursday, June 13, 2019, at Living Word Church of God, 6325 Calkins Rd., Flint. Pastor Tim McKenzie will officiate. Burial will follow at Flushing Cemetery. Visitation will be at noon Thursday at the church until the time of the service. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity.
Dale was born in Flint, Michigan in October of 1929, the son of James and Erma. He married Thelma in September of 1950, in Flint. Dale was a patient loving husband, father, and grandfather. Like his father he worked for 37 years as a GM autoworker and was a proud member of the UAW. He loved reading and writing, singing hymns and studying his bible, attending church with his children, woodworking and tinkering, mowing his lawn, and watching the Tigers, Lions, Redwings and Spartans. He enjoyed story telling and visiting with family, neighbors and any willing stranger. In his thoughts words and deeds he strived to follow the teachings of his savior Jesus Christ.
He is survived by children, David and wife Bonnie Koons, Susan Pierce, Duane Koons and wife Maureen O'Connor, Sandra and husband Bill Roberts, and Sherri Koons; daughter-in-law, Deborah Koons; grandchildren, Jason (Jill), Jonathan, Laura (Cameron), Jeremy (Charity), Brooke (Jeff), Aaron, Chad, Carina (Jeremy), Caitlin (Nathan), Moira (Brian), Liam, Malachy, Donald, Tommy (Alexis), Kaila, Ilysh, Aiden; 23 great-grandchildren; and dear friends, Delbert and Donna Beemer. Dale was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Thelma; son, Dale Leroy Koons; grandson, Kai Koons; great-granddaughter, Maleeyah Marie Lokken and sister, Beverly Wijas. |
