Barbara Ann Bissonnette, age 79, of Lapeer, died Saturday, July 6, 2019. She was born November 10, 1939 in Detroit, to Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Zelmanowski.
Barbara married Andre “Frenchy” Bissonnette on February 7, 1959 in Detroit. Mrs. Bissonnette was a merchandiser and assistant manager for K-Mart here in Lapeer. She retired after over 25 years with K-Mart and went on to become a Certified Medical Assistant. Barbara worked at “Knollwood Clinic” for several years and especially enjoyed her time helping pediatric patients. She also liked time spent with her fellow members in the Red Hat Society and many friends at the Lapeer Senior Center. Mrs. Bissonnette was a longtime, devoted member of Immaculate Conception Church in Lapeer, where she volunteered for many things, including the Red Cross Blood Drives and funeral luncheons.
Barbara is survived by her children: Anita (fiancé Nick Florio) Bissonnette of Grand Blanc, Michael (Shelly) Bissonnette of Otisville, Jim (Mona Lisa) Bissonnette of St. Charles, Illinois, Laurie (Mark) Hoeksema of Lapeer and Vickie (Mark) Mello of Freeland, Michigan; daughter-in-law: Janet Bissonnette of Lapeer; grandchildren: Andrea Bearss, Ryland Bissonnette, Joel Bissonnette, Caitlin Bissonnette, Jeff Mann, Tabitha Mann, Mark Bissonnette, Troy Bissonnette, Blake Hoeksema, Kirsten Hoeksema, Madeline Mello, Abigail Mello and Mark Mello, Jr.; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband: Andre “Frenchy” Bissonnette; son: Tom Bissonnette; daughter: Andrea Bissonnette; parents: Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Zelmanowski; 1 sister and 1 brother.
Visitation will be 2-8PM Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. The Vigil of the Deceased will be prayed 7:30PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Barbara’s funeral mass will be 11:00AM Thursday, July 11, 2019, at Immaculate Conception Church in Lapeer. Father Brian Hurley will officiate the service, followed immediately by burial at Mt. Loretto Cemetery. The family will also receive friends from 10:00-10:40AM Thursday, July 11, 2019, at the funeral home.
