DOUGHERTY, Gary D. – Of Grand Blanc, age 70, died Monday, December 29, 2014 peacefully in his sleep, with his beloved wife of 50 years next to him at their home.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2015 at the Swartz Funeral Home 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Burial in Flint Memorial Park.
Those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society of Genesee County.
Visitation 10 a.m.–8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home
Gary was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on April 4, 1944, the son of the late Wesley and Maxine (Williamson) Dougherty.
He married Diane Sellers on June 20, 1964.
He was campground host at South Higgins State Park for over 13 years; was an avid golfer, loved golfing with his son and close friends. He spent many months with his sweetheart traveling across the U.S.
Mr. Dougherty was employed by Buick Motor Division for 37 years, retiring in 2000 and was a member of UAW Local 599.
He leaves to cherish his memory, wife of over 50 years, Diane;
three children, Michelle and husband Kevin Cashin,
Renee and husband Gary Struck,
Michael and wife Amy Dougherty;
six grandchildren, Brittany, Chelsey, Kellie, Tom, Steven and Joseph;
two sisters, Darlene and husband Jim Worley,
Connie Chevenert;
sister-in-law, Brenda Dougherty;
many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Curtis Brisstte, brother, Wesley Dougherty and sister, Linda Jo Dougherty.
