JONES, Evangelist Doris-age 59, formerly of Flint, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016 in Houston, TX. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Monday, July 11, 2016 with a 10:30 am family hour at Bethlehem Temple Church 3401 ML King Ave. Flint, MI 48505. Pastor Phillip Thompson officiating. The final resting place for Evangelist Doris Jones will be Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI. Calling hours are 12:00 noon - 6:00 pm Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Sheldon T. Banks Funeral Chapel.
Evangelist Doris Cartellius Jones was born August 13, 1956 in Flint, MI the daughter of Mary Ponder and Nicholas Nicholson. She was a 1974 graduate of Flint Northwestern High School and continued her education at U of M Flint earning a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. Later in 2009 she also earned a MA in Early Childhood Development at Oakland University. She was also employed with Flint Community Schools since 1992 and the United States Census Bureau since 2000. Evangelist Doris Jones was involved in various spiritual initiatives such as Meet Me on The Floor, At The Table radio broadcast and phone prayer lines. She was well known in the community for her warm smile, hugs and encouraging words of wisdom. Evangelist Doris Jones was called to ministry by God 34 years ago. Her hobbies included spending time with her grandchildren, traveling and socializing with family and friends. She also enjoyed shopping, her lashes and her church attire.
Evangelist Doris Jones leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Raymond Jones of Houston, TX; 2 daughters, MonToyua Ponder of Houston, TX, Tiffany (Roger) Johnson of Flint, MI; son, DeReco Ponder of Flint, MI; 12 grandchildren, Marquel, Shantone, Briajah, Jamyla, Sandiea, Rapedo, Taron, Hakeem, Chauncey, Equashia, Kareem, DaMarre, Roger Jr.; 2 great-grandchildren, LaMarion and Marquel Jr. (unborn); sisters, Gilda “Ann” (John) Hudson of Flint, MI, Elverna Ponder of Bridgeport, MI, Jinnie Ponder of Columbus, OH; brothers, Stillie (Brenda) Nicholson of Chicago, IL and Jeffrey Ponder; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; sisters-in-law, Mae Carolyn Cochran, Linnell McKinney both of Flint; brothers-in-law, Eddie Jones, Bobby Jones, Bay Jones, Charles Jones; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends: Birdie Peoples, Margaret “Qeeny” Watt, Brenda Tate, Sheila Jones, Barbie Biggs, Debra Peters, Carolyn Russell.
Evangelist Doris Jones was preceded in death by: mother, Mary Ponder; father, Nicholas Nicholson; sister, Sharon Brickley; mother-in-law, Eular Mae Jones; father-in-law, Calvin Jones; brother-in-law, David Jones.
