HORVATH, Mentie P.(Pace) – Of Flint, age 96, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Caretel Inns of Linden.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Mr. Gary Turner officiating.
Visitation 4-7 p.m. Friday and 12 noon Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bristol Road Church of Christ or the charity of one’s choice.
Mentie was born in Grubbs, AR on June 22, 1918, the daughter of James and Dovie (Sullins) Pace, and came to Flint in 1936 after graduating from Weiner, Arkansas High School.
She was a member of Bristol Road Church of Christ for over 25 years and a life member of M.A.R.S.P. Her hobbies were home related like baking, sewing, crocheting and yard work. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends. Her family and homemaking always came first with her. She later worked for 20 years for the Flint Public Library and 40 years for the Flint Election Board.
Surviving are two daughters, Marilyn Fowler of Flint and Emily (Jack) McMahan of Linden;
son, Edmund of Flint;
daughter-in-law, Judy Horvath of Flint;
9 grandchildren, Cheryl (Doug) DeFrain,
Michele (Phillip) Allen,
Christine Horvath,
Jennifer Hart,
James J. Fowler,
Jill Villarreal,
John McMahan,
Angela Hectel and
Brian (Dana) McMahan;
12 great-grandchildren, Rachel, Tyler, Katharine, Mitchel, Nathan, Juliana, Miguel, Nicholas, Ethan, Stephen, Abigail, Amber and Andrew;
sister, Helen Griffins;
many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Edmund, in 1982; her parents; son, Stephen, in 1996; brothers, Winfred (Octavia) Pace and Leo (Mae) Pace; sisters, Willie (Russell) Lamkins, Wilda (Richard) Hughes and Velma Jones; brother, Glen (Lucretia) Pace and brother-in-law, Arden Griffins.
