Tina Marie Schaefer-Shaw, age 47 of Durand, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Avalon Hospice in Flint. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 10, 2012 at the Durand United Methodist Church, 10016 E. Newburg Rd. Durand, MI 48429. Pastors Tom Anderson and Beverly Marr will be co-officiating with burial to follow in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. The family will receive friends at Watkins Brothers funeral Homes, Durand Chapel on Thursday from 2-8 PM.
Tina was born on August 4, 1964 in Lapeer, Michigan. She attended Swartz Creek High School, graduating in 1982. On March 1, 1983, Tina enlisted in the Marines and served her country honorably for 4 years. On June 9, 1990, she married Tom Schaefer in Durand and together raised 2 boys.
Tina worked in the United States Postal Service for 12 years, was a Substitute Teacher and a Tutor. Her hobbies and interests included: family, friends, babies, reading, family pets, cooking, music, photography, traveling and nature. She was also very proud of her educational work that she had done with children.
Tina is survived by her husband of 21 years, Tom; 2 sons: Matthew and Lucas; mother, Linda Ballard of Gaines; father, John Ballard of Swartz Creek; sister, Stephanie (Roy) Uhlmeyer of Swartz Creek; nieces, Drew and Carly and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Don Shaw; grandparents: Mary and Opa Kuck, Phil and Lois Ballard, Loretta and Randall Dee Shaw and Catherine Slinger.
