McKinsey, K. Lee of Flushing, age 85, died Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Hospice House of Shiawassee County. In accordance with Lee’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services held. A private burial will be at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to the Humane Society of Genesee County.
K. Lee McKinsey was born in Flint, Michigan on March 20, 1939, the son of the late Robert and Helen (Orr) McKinsey. He resided in Flushing for the past 38 years, coming from Flint. Lee graduated from Hoover High School, Class of 1957. He was united in marriage to Yvonne Porterfield on April 5, 1958, at the Flushing United Methodist Church.
Lee was the third generation to own and operate McKinsey Construction Co., Inc. He later ventured out and established Mid-Michigan Pad Printers until his retirement. Lee will be remembered for his hard work, ethics, being outspoken, and above all, his story telling.
Among his many interests, he took great pride in caring for his property, enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds and the fish in his well-stocked pond, skeet shooting, Sunday drives, woodworking, and daily puttering in his workshop. He obtained his pilots license and enjoyed flying his single engine plane, making many memorable trips.
Lee is survived by his son, Victor (Leslie) McKinsey; daughter, Debra (Victor) Keehn; granddaughter, Krystal (Dusty) York; brother, Robert (Nancy) McKinsey; nephews; nieces; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne McKinsey of 62 years; his parents; parents-in-law, Raymond and Captolia Porterfield; brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Roberta Porterfield.
