LYLES, LLOYD, JR.
On Saturday, November 09, 2024, Lloyd Lyles Jr. took his final breath in his home, surrounded by the love of his daughters, Lori and Abby, who cared for him in his final year. Lloyd was the first-born son of Lloyd Sr. and Cornelia (Marks) Lyles on April 14, 1942 in Sawyerville, Alabama.
A Funeral Service will be held at noon on Monday, November 18, 2024, at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, Michigan, Reverend Dennis J. Sykes officiating.
Visitation will be from 12 to 8 PM on Sunday, November 17, and from 11 AM until the service begins on Monday at Swartz.
Born and raised in Sawyerville, Alabama, Lloyd committed his life to Christ early as a New Hope Baptist Church member. He continued his devotion to God after moving to Flint and becoming a deacon. His knowledge and depth of the Bible were boundless; the knowledge was known to intimidate the most devout.
Following his graduation from Hale County Training School in Greensboro, Alabama, in 1960, Lloyd moved to Nashville, TN, before coming north to settle in Flint, MI, where he was on the production line of Buick City, a subdivision of General Motors.
Lloyd avidly loved all sports, especially basketball, football, and wrestling. Friday night will not be the same without him watching WWE Smackdown. He loved to play his “numbers,” and he had a sharp mind for statistics and the trajectory of how the numbers would fall. However you met Lloyd, he was the life of the party and loved to show off his dance moves.
Lloyd Jr. leaves to cherish his memory: four daughters: Shelley Lyles Madison of Cordova, TN; Dwyla Edwards Scales (Jared) of Calera, AL; Lori Ann Lyles and Abby Rae-Ann Virginia Lyles, both of Flint, MI; one son: Lloyd Dewayne (Tiffany) Lyles of Port Huron, MI, three sisters: Dorothy Trimble of Nashville, TN; Lillie (James) Williams of Detroit, MI; Gloria Jean Royal of Sawyerville, AL, one brother, Earnest Alfred Lyles of Union City, Georgia, five grandchildren: Dashon McCloud of Dallas, TX; Jarrell LeFlore of Flint, MI, Marquis Lyles of Norfolk, VA; Brandon Lyles of Pensacola, FL, Lauren Madison of Kennesaw, GA, three great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Sr. and Cornelia; siblings: S.L. Lyles, Mary Francis Edwards, Fannie Lee Jones, Percy “P.L.” Lyles, and Leana Braden; a niece and one great-nephew.
Special thanks to his sister, Lillie Belle Williams, for her care for a quarter of his life.
