BALLARD, Vanessa Lois spent her 59 years of life (born October 25, 1954) making other people both her priority and her business; she had a heart of a servant. A pure heart of gold. Moreover, as she lived, she freely gave; she helped, she prayed, she laughed, she cried, she hurt, she smiled, and empathically gave whatever she could to whoever she could, to help others in any way that she could. Her warm heart, radiating smile, gentle spirit, and sweet presence always lit up and soothed a room. Her quick witted and inventive nature, seemed to always solve the riddles to life’s problems. Her spiritual walk with God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, was the exact divine essence of who she was. She loved the Lord with every fiber of her being, and she carried the light of Christ everywhere she went, to every person she encountered, and with every word she spoke.
Vanessa graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Teaching degree in 1976 while working at Williams School and later earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Oakland University. She taught severely emotionally impaired children at Doyle Ryder and spent the bulk of her teaching career at Whaley Children Center and eventually after 34 years of service, retired at Northern High School, where she graduated from in 1973. She dedicated her life serving and helping children in the Flint Community School District. Vanessa touched and changed many students’ lives during her tenure as an educator.
She was a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, survived by a plethora of loved ones who meant the world to her: a special mother Gussie D Wells, incredible children Cornell Ballard III and Courtney Ballard. Her grand kids who were the apple of her eye, Amari Thomas and Cyson LaFreniere. As well as amazing brothers and sisters: Phyllis Wells, Paulette Wells-Young, Dorothy Wells, Shirley Wells-Boyd, LeeRoy Wells Sr, and Fred Wells Sr. In addition, to a host of outstanding nephews and nieces, great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, brother and sister in laws, extended family, loved ones, and very special friends alike, including; Jefferey Keyes, Geraldine Mooney, Paula Aurino, Andrena Sharp, Ruthie Daniels, Brigitte Cummings, Rick Thenhaus, Cornell Ballard Jr, Kenyada Dent, Fred Wells Jr, Ne-Ne Wells, Mary Keyes, Jeffery Keyes-Allen, Lixton “Train” Watson, Shannon Mitchell, Carolyn Wells, Maurecio and Malik Anderson, LaRhonda Wells, Pamela and Paula Wells, Ola Taylor, and so many other loved ones she cherished so much.
Vanessa transitioned to her Heavenly Home, joining her father Phillip S Wells, Friday, November, 30, 2013 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minessota. She was also welcomed by her grandmother Etta Wells, and nephews Earl Craig and Rauheem Wells. A Memorial Tribute Celebration Service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 9, 2013, at Metropolitan Baptist Church, 930 East Myrtle Ave., Flint, MI 48505.
Special Thanks to Pastor Carlos Williams, Dr. Miguel F. Perez, Singh & Arora Oncology/Hematology, and The Mayo Clinic. No matter what, in spite of what, through every obstacle in life, always remember; God is Able.
