KAY, Thomas – Of Flint, age 89, died Saturday, April 26, 2014 in
Kennesaw, Georgia.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 706 Beach Street, Flint, Father Frederick H. Taggart, O.S.A. officiating.
Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery with a military graveside service under the auspices of the Marine Corps League Flint Detachment #155 Honor Guard.
Visitation 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.
A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Friday followed by a Memorial service at 7:30 by the Knights of Columbus Council #695 3rd Degree and 4th Degree Assembly #0510 at the funeral home.
Visitation will be at the church from 10:30 a.m. Saturday until the time of the Memorial Mass.
Thomas was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 25, 1924, the son of Frederick Kay and Elizabeth Knowles.
He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II and the Korean War.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #659.
He was an avid golfer.
Mr. Kay was employed by Flint News-Advertiser, he was Deputy City Manager of Flint, Flint City Manager, on the Flint Board of Education, Multico Corp and executive director of the Manufacturers of Flint Association.
Surviving are children, Mary Jane and husband Ed Houry of Lake City, FL,
Frederick and wife Mary Lee Kay of Burns Township, MI,
Sharon and husband Michael Larson of Kennesaw, GA,
Patricia and husband John Takle of Sterling Heights, MI,
Colleen and husband Jim Vogel of Hiram, GA.;
grandchildren, Elizabeth, Theresa, Anna, Madaline, Helen, Mary, William, Jay, Thomas and Danny;
sister, Mary Dawson;
many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by wife, Rose and parents.
