PALMER, Herbert Harry - age 93 of Grand Blanc, MI passed away Sunday, December 1, 2019 at Genesys Regional Medical Center. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no memorial service. Final resting place will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI. Herbert was born on March 12, 1926 in Detroit, MI to the late Harry H. and Clara M. (Turk) Palmer. He married Leona Myers on September 4, 1948 at Howell Methodist Church. Herbert received his Bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in 1949, and his Master's degree in 1954. He worked as a teacher, elementary principle, high school principle, and industrial arts teacher in the Carmen-Ainsworth school district for 38 years. He also worked at the University of Michigan in the student-teacher program for 3 years. Herbert served in the United States Army AF during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post 141 in Howell, MI. He was a member of the National Education Association and the Michigan Education Association. Herbert was a regular at Hank and Don's in Swartz Creek on Wednesday afternoons, and enjoyed meeting up with other retired teachers and friends for drinks and laughs. Herbert's drink of choice was Black Label beer and he accredited that to his long life. He was an excellent story teller with a great sense of humor. A jack of all trades who could build anything. He also enjoyed nature and loved to feed the deer and birds. Herbert is survived by his daughters, Nancy (Gordon) Short, Jill Elphinston, LeeAnn (William) Parish, and Sandra (James) Bergeron; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and sister, Patricia (William) Austin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona; and his brother, Wesley.
