MIELEWSKI, Florence (Flo/Toots) – Our beloved Mom and Grandma passed into the loving arms of Jesus on December 16, 2018 at the age of 96 years. Florence Irene Monroe was born in Clio, MI November 8, 1922 to Calvin and Mabel (Currier) Monroe. She was the second of 4 children and their only daughter. She graduated from Millington High School with the class of 1941. She then moved to Flint and worked at Comber’s Market for several years. Mom was transferred to Abbott’s Market and while working there she met a handsome pump jockey working at the Gas Station next door… The rest, as they say, is history…
Flo and Charles Mielewski eloped to Indiana on May 31, 1952. Sadly, he passed away February 20, 1967 at the young age of 42 from injuries in a car/train accident. Mom was also predeceased by her parents, brothers Ken (Floy) and Fred (Delores) Monroe, nephews Kenny and Donnie Monroe, brother and sister-in-law, Leonard (Shirley) Mielewski and niece Pamela Hulber.
Mom started working at AC Spark Plug in 1953 and she made many wonderful friends during her 34 years there, retiring in 1987. She was a Charter Member of the Davison chapter of ABWA, volunteered in the Davison Senior Center’s office, served several terms on the Center’s Advisory Board and danced with the Flag City Cloggers for many years. She also exercised at Curves until she was 94 and drove her station wagon until age 91. In her younger years she enjoyed bowling on several leagues, playing Euchre in Card Club, helping with the stitching for the quilt club and was always in the middle of a good book. She loved watching her Grandchildren’s dance recitals, baseball and soccer games. Mom was also an avid Detroit Tigers and Red Wings fan.
Left to cherish their memories of the best Mom, “Dad”, Grandma, Sister, Aunt and friend that we could ever ask for are daughters, Sue (Rick) Havercroft and Lou Anne (Bill) Nason, with whom Mom made her home. Cherished grandchildren: Carrie Aldrich, Tony Nason and Shelly (Chris) Graham. Her brother, CL (Cozette) Monroe, several nieces, nephews, and very dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church or the Davison Senior Center.
