Beautiful, strong, faithful, breast cancer survivor (2x), mother, baby sister, grandmother, great grandmother, storyteller, chef, fishermen, master gardener, and legendary bartender- all titles that describe Aleane Lavern “Babe” Hill. Babe was born April 11, 1935 in Greensboro, AL to Herbert and Lelia (Brown) Hill. She grew up on her daddy’s farm with her grandmother Fannie C. Brown (who she called “other momma”) and her four brothers Herbert “Shot”, Charlie, Warren, and Frances). She was the baby sister and simply adored her brothers and followed them where ever they went.
Ms. Aleane was a member of the choir at Salem Baptist Church of Greensboro and graduated from high school in 1954 from Hale County Training School in Greensboro. In 1955, in baby sister fashion Babe followed her brothers to Flint, MI where she completed nursing school and worked at St. Joseph Hospital of Flint.
When her brother Warren took ownership of the now legendary Golden Leaf Club of Flint, Aleane joined the family business becoming a staple smiling face everyone knew and loved. To the members of the Golden Leaf club she was respectfully and affectionately known as “Miss Aleane.”
Ms. Aleane took the most pride in cooking for her children and grandchildren especially during the holidays. Her favorite past times were bowling, fishing in Canada, and cultivating plants. She loved her neighborhood and was an active member of the Raskob Street Block Club where she served as secretary.
Her courage and strength shined throughout her many years of health challenges and was a proud two-time breast cancer survivor.
Ms. Aleane leaves to cherish her 5 children: Tanja Hill (Flint, MI), Zachary (Jackie) Hill (Flint, MI), Brian (Victoria) Hill (Indianapolis, IN), Sophia Hill (Mt. Morris, MI), and Alonzo Hill (Flint, MI). God daughter Stella Reed (Flint, MI).
4 Grandchildren: Candid (Kellen) Brandon (Lansing, MI), Tanicia Rosemond (Mt. Morris, MI), Asia Hill (Arkadelphia, AR), and Elijah Hill (Mt. Morris, MI).
6 Great Grandchildren: Ta’Shari Wilson, Trinity Rosemond, Amiya Brandon, Chandler Brandon, Aubrey Brandon, Lathan Crawford Jr., and Lay’Ja Crawford.
