Gerald Lee Weatherwax Sr., fondly known as Jerry, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2024, at Hurley Medical Center in Flint. Born on December 15, 1948, in Cadillac, Michigan, to the late Ervin George and Margaret (Miller) Weatherwax, Jerry grew up embodying the spirit of his beloved hometown. Jerry's life was marked not only by his tireless work ethic and inventive mind but also by his unwavering kindness and the treasured moments he spent surrounded by his loving family.
Jerry's life was a tapestry of love and dedication, especially to his family. He is survived by his adoring daughter, Jill Edwards; his cherished grandchildren, Mayse (CJ) Meyers, Madison Edwards, and Marisa Bennett; and his precious great-grandchildren, Mallaree, Mallaki, and Myllee Meyers, Braxton Mills, Jaxzyn Edwards, and Beckley Austin. Jerry was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews, each of whom he held close to his heart. He was predeceased by his dedicated wife, Sandy, in 2009, his son Gerald "Jerry" Weatherwax Jr. in 1994, and his siblings, Ron, Don, and Sandy, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories and a family that will forever honor his memory.
A proud graduate of Cadillac High School, Jerry's commitment to learning and excellence set the foundation for his remarkable career. He dedicated 48 years of his life to Terex-Simplicity, where he was known for his intelligence and mastery in his craft. Jerry's dedication to his work was paralleled only by his passion for his personal interests.
An avid outdoorsman, Jerry found solace in the serenity of nature. Bass fishing and hunting were not mere hobbies; they were expressions of his deep appreciation for the beauty and rhythm of the natural world. His hands were rarely still, as he delighted in woodworking and the meticulous process of building and restoring bass boats. Jerry was a true mechanic at heart, whose skillful hands and innovative mind could fix or create nearly anything he set his mind to.
Jerry's talents extended far beyond his professional and outdoor endeavors. He was a man whose character was as strong as his hands were skilled. Those who knew him would describe Jerry as incredibly handy, highly intelligent, and immensely kind—a man who could both mend a broken engine and gently heal a wounded spirit with his compassionate nature.
Above all, Jerry cherished time spent with his family. Whether he was sharing stories of days gone by or teaching life's little lessons through actions rather than words, he was the heart and joy of family gatherings.
Jerry leaves us with a constellation of memories, a model of integrity, and a guide for living richly and profoundly.
Funeral service to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at 11:00am at Watkins brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel. The Weatherwax family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6:00pm-8:00pm.
