LAMB, Laraine Diane - Of Flushing, age 69, passed on at Hurley Medical Center on Saturday, December 29, 2012. She was born in Allen Park, Michigan, was raised in Flint and lived most of her years in Flushing. She enjoyed a complete and full life filled with adventure, passionate friendships and a desire to help others. After graduating from Flint Central High School, Laraine dedicated herself to being a homemaker for her husband, Carl, and two boys, Bill and Ron. She invested countless hours traveling to ice rinks and helping her boys and their friends grow up. The untimely death of her son, Bill, in 1981, was a hurt from which she never recovered. However, could anyone imagine a more fitting gift than her joining him on his birthday?
She worked for a time as a forklift truck driver in a Chevrolet Manufacturing plant but really loved her years helping women purchase clothes at Dino’s. She was purported to be the first female owner of a professional hockey team, having co-founded the Flint Spirits. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Whaley Children’s Center. One of her greatest joys was helping people lose weight at one of her Nutritional Weight Control Clinics with her famous “Cookie Diet.” In her final years, she found the peace of Christ at Cornerstone Community Church, enjoyed her weekly bible study group and trekked with her “adventure gals” to movies and events around Michigan. She passionately loved animals, traveling the world and playing golf and cards with her friends.
Surviving are her son, Ron Lamb of Dayton, Ohio; his wife, Kristi; and her grandchildren, Blake, Erika and Taryn Lamb. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle Wesley and Mary Diane (Pavlich) Marr; her daughter, Nancy Diane, who died at birth; and her son, William Wesley.
In lieu of flowers, Laraine’s preference was always a charitable donation. Please consider Powers High School, the Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
Friends may visit the family on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Swartz Funeral Home at 1225 West Hill Road in Flint. Laraine will be at the church from 12 p.m. and The Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Cornerstone Community Church on 5182 North Elms Road in Flushing, Pastor Rick Schmidt officiating.
