QUINN, Luke - Age 81, died June 22, 2012 in Indiana while traveling from Kentucky to Michigan. Memorial visitation 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. Graveside service at Glenwood Cemetery at 11 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2012 under the auspices of VFW Post #822 Honor Guard. Mr. Quinn was born in Patesville, Kentucky on December 23, 1930, the son of Marquis and Alma (Snyder) Quinn and was a resident of Hawesville, Kentucky, formerly of Flint, Michigan. He grew up in rural Kentucky where he helped out on the family tobacco farm and attended a one room school. He graduated from Western Kentucky with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and later graduated from Wayne State University Law School in 1964. He served in the United States Air Force stationed in California during the Korean War. He was later assigned as Provost Marshall at Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Oscoda, which brought him to Michigan. From 1958 to 1960, he was stationed in Saudi Arabia, and then worked for McCormick Spice Company after leaving active service. He remained in the Air Force Reserves until 1974, when he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Judge Quinn began his law career as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Michigan in 1964. From there he went into private law practice in Clio. In 1969 he became a district court judge, and was appointed Genesee County Probate Judge in 1970 where he spent the remainder of his judicial career. He retired from the bench in 1989. After his retirement, he was appointed racing commissioner for the State of Michigan where he served until 1992. He then returned to private practice. Judge Quinn was a member of the Genesee County Bar Association. Surviving are former wife, Rena Novak Quinn;
daughters, Susan (Dale) Wolverton of Swartz Creek, Laura (Alan Smith) Quinn of Silver Spring, Maryland, Kathryn (Ron) Satow of Hermosa Beach, California; son, Michael (Sima Lotfi) Quinn of Rockville, Maryland; grandchildren, Matthew Wolverton, Marcus Wolverton, Isabel Smith and Quinn Satow; great-grandson on the way;
brothers, Clay (Shirlene) Quinn and Ray Quinn; sisters, Mary Lee Quinn, and Joan (Charles) King. He was preceded in death by parents and sister, Norma Franzman. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to Whaley Children’s Center, 1201 N. Grand Traverse St., Flint, MI 48503.
