Sargent, Norbert "Sarge" F. age 95, of Burton, formerly of Imlay City, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2014 at the Aleda E. Lutz V.A Medical Center, Saginaw. Family will receive visitors from 1-5 pm Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014 at the New Dawn Chapel, 1569 S. Elba Rd. Lapeer, MI. Memorial contributions to the VFW Post #2777, Burton in lieu of flowers. Burial will take place at the Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Sarge was born March 20, 1919, in a logging camp near Reeves, MO, on the Mississippi River. He was the son of Ralph and Lydia (Fox) Sargent. He graduated from New Madrid High School in New Madrid, MO, in 1937 with high honors. Sarge answered the call of his country and joined the U.S. Navy in April of 1942, to serve in WWII in the Pacific Islands. He was joined in marriage to Charleen Stanley of Fenton on October 5, 1963. Sarge owned the Village Hub Restaurant in Linden, as well as Sarge's Camper Sales of Fenton. He was employed by Grand Blanc Fisher Body for 27 years, was an active member of the UAW Local #1292. Sarge was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #2777 of Burton. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and archery. He was adept at writing poetry, and many of his poems were published in the Local #1292 newspaper. Sarge loved to dance, and was an award-winning finish carpenter. Two of his wood carvings are on display at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. Sarge is survived by his wife Charleen, children Linda (Charles) Neitzel, Donna (Donald) Pintar, Sandra (Ray) Boughton, Constance (Donald) Hanson, Raymond Stanley, 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Murrel and Ralph Sargent, and grandson Micha Miller. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the care and consideration given to their family at the Aleda E. Lutz V.A. Medical Center in Saginaw. |
