DOWEN, Robert E. – of New Lothrop, age 86, died Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Medilodge of Montrose. Funeral services will be held at 1PM Monday, August 28, 2017 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. Pastor Steve Hittle officiating. Cremation to follow. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Sunday from 3PM until 8PM and Monday from 11AM until the time of service at 1PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice.
Robert was born October 26, 1930 in New Lothrop, Michigan to the late Charles and Lotta (Rising) Dowen. He married Dorothy Gail on November 30, 1956. She preceded him in death December 18, 2012. Mr. Dowen retired from Chevrolet in 1980 with 30 years seniority and was a member of the UAW Local # 659. He loved his Lord. Robert was a bee keeper for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, and working on small engines and tractors - especially Allis-Chalmers. Robert was a loving father, and grandfather.
Surviving are: Children: Jacqueline (Robert) Daniel, Patricia (Steven) Schlicht, Dale (Cheryl) Dowen, and Garry (Jul) Dowen; 8 grandchildren: Robert, Marissa, Matthew, Jonathan, Adam, Dylan, Ben, and Jacob; Many great grandchildren. Robert was also preceded in death by his first wife, Veda Huey in 1956, and granddaughter, Autumn in 2001.
