Carolyn Ann (Torreano) Kesanen born January 14, 1937
Eagle Harbor- Carolyn Ann (Torreano) Kesanen of Eagle Harbor, 80, formally of Flint, unexpectedly passed away on June 9, 2017.
A graduate of CalumetHigh School. She moved to Flint to start her nursing career as hospital nurse for 4 years at Flint Osteopathic Hospital; Flint Board of Education for 17 years working at Northwestern High School assisting special needs students and also formed the cheerleading squad “Hockey Honies”, Mott Community College as a coordinator and supervisor for the Summer Health programs, along with teacher adult education.
In her last 4 years of her career, she was involved in a new nationally recognized program called, “Careers in Health” based at Flint Hurley Medical Center. Retiring in June 1994, Carolyn took part in the Calumet High School Reunion Committee as a designer and coordinator at the Calumet Armory. Carolyn had a passion for art and photography and was awarded and recognized for the semi finalist seal in the North American Open Amateur photographic contest for the picture, “Keweenaw Sunset.”
Carolyn was preceded in death by their son, Donald; and her parents, Louis and Mary Torreano; step-father James Torreano; two sisters, Marylou Mihelich, Kay Kucal; and grandson Brandon Holland.
Survived by her loving husband of over 60 years, Fritz Kesanen; and three daughters, Kathy (Randy) Wilkinson, Laurie (Chum) Younglove and Kim Kesanen; grandchildren, Erica, Tony, Alicia, Tara, Rocky, Scarlett, Cody; along with several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Every inch of her was filled with compassion and love for all that surrounded her. She was the rock of our family. Integrity, loyalty and love for each one of us. We love her more than words can express; however, we will not mourn but remember her in joy. Memories that she helped us create will live on with us forever.
A memorial mass will be held at 11:00a.m. On June 30, 2017, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 56512 Rockland St. Calumet, MI 49913, with Father Abraham Mupparathara to officiate and Deacon Art Stancher to assist.
Donations can be made in Carolyn’s memory to the American Diabetes Association and the American Heart Association.
