Walter, Tommie of Lennon, formerly of Flushing, age 70, died on Thursday, January 12, 2017, at his home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at Rossell Funeral Home. Burial will be 1 p.m. at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and 12-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the family.
Tommie was born in Flint, Michigan on October 16, 1946, the son of Ervin and Glora (Oake) Walter. He married Deborah Eller on November 14, 1970. Tommie proudly served in the U.S. Army as an Air Gunner during the Vietnam war. He was employed by Modern Concrete for over 15 years before working at Asphalt Management, a family business, where he was grateful to be able to work alongside his children, grandchildren, and other family members. Tom enjoyed cowboy movies and Nascar. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. Being a grandpa was his greatest joy.
Tom is survived by his wife of 46 years, Debbie; children, Brent and wife Sonja Walter, Heather and husband Chris McLane, Tiffany and husband Brian Clifford; grandchildren, Brooke (Scotty), Katelynn, Luke, Spencer, Lance, Dylan, Payton, Avery, Emily, Breanna; great-grandsons, Landen, Holden; sister, Jody and husband Joe Marsh; nephews, Chad and David Marsh; and brother-in-law, Kevin Eller. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Gaylord Eller; and his mother and father-in-law. |
