Maitland L. Doyle, age 81 of Lennon, passed away at his daughter's home in Owosso on Friday, March 30, 2012. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 700 E. Columbia Dr. Durand, Michigan 48429. Fr. Jeffrey A. Poll will be officiating with burial to follow in Yerian Cemetery, Lennon. The family will receive friends at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. and again on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. with the rosary being prayed Monday evening at 7:00 p.m.
Maitland was born on March 11, 1931 in Croswell, MI the son of Robert and Agnes (Respondick) Doyle. On September 15, 1951, he married Margaret Paradis and together raised 5 children.

Maitland was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving at the end of the Korean War. He retired from General Motors Metal Fab in Flint after 30 years of service.

Mr. Doyle was on the Durand Athletic Boosters, the Durand Football Chain Gang for 28 years and a member of the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame. He was past boys scouts volunteer, a little league coach and a YMCA Indian Guide Leader.

Mr. Doyle was also a very active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Mary's Euchre Club.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret; 3 sons: Stephen (Robin) Doyle, Christopher (Susan) Doyle, Thomas (Nancy) Doyle; daughter, Kathleen (Fred) VanAlstine; daughter-in-law, Deborah Doyle; grand children: Stephen (Shannon) Doyle, Matthew (Amanda) Doyle, Rebecca (Corey) Sheehan, Hannah Doyle, Jonathan (Holli) Doyle, Daniel Doyle, Heather (Jeff) Dale, Elizabeth VanAlstine, Andrew VanAlstine, Mark VanAlstine, Christopher (Lauren) Pontoni, Greg (Jeanelle) Pontoni, Sean (Amanda) Doyle, Megan Doyle, Stephanie Curtis, Ashley Curtis, Tyler Curtis; great grandchildren: Maren, Kayla, Claire, Brady, Lucas, Josie, Carter, Matthew, Eloise, Juliun, Payton, Vincent, Hailey and Zoey; brothers: Ray, Dennis (Betty), Norman (Cathy); sisters: Eleanor, Loretta, Bunny (Bob) and Evie as well as many, many nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his son Timothy, both parents, brothers: Cliff, Robert, Jack and Pat; sisters: Margaret, Donalda and Tot.
