CHARLES, William Forest - Age 92, of Fenton, died peacefully in his sleep, Sunday, February 5, 2017. Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM Friday, February 10, 2017 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 5005 McCandlish Road, Grand Blanc. Pastor Nathan Loersch officiating. Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton, Thursday from 2-9 PM and at church Friday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. Those desiring may make contributions to the Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 957, Fenton, MI 48430.
Bill was born June 5, 1924 in Paragould, AR, the son of William Samuel and Laura (Dunavant) Charles. He was a 1940 graduate of Dye High School. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. New Mexico. He married Marian L. Westenfeld December 1, 1945, in Flint. He retired from AC Delco after 22 years of service and also had owned and operated Bill's Barber Shop in Flint Township for over 40 years. Bill was a active member of Hope Lutheran Church in Swartz Creek, then the Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church. He was a charter member of the Flint Township Lions Club, Dye High School Alumni Association, Fenton V.F.W. Curtis Wolverton Post #3243, and the American Legion.
Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Marian; children, Joan (Richard) Zeeb of Fenton, Jean (Earl) Hagstrom of Linden, Laura (John) Partlo of Swartz Creek, James (Diane) Charles of West Bloomfield, and Lisa (Timothy) Bradow of West Bloomfield; 20 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, and several step grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Gene (Donna) Westenfeld of Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, William Thomas Charles, brothers, Joseph and Lamont Charles; sisters, Pearl Sventko and Mary Grathoff; and great-great granddaughter, Holly. Online tributes may be posted on the obituaries page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. |
