David Downey Simpson, age 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He has now been reunited with his beloved wife, Claudia, who passed away on July 24, 2022.
He was born on December 24, 1936, to Leslie and Winifred Simpson. David lived a life defined by service, love, and dedication to his family. He served his country with honor from 1955 to 1965 in the Marines, a decade that shaped his lifelong values of duty and sacrifice. He married Claudia on June 12, 1966, and together they created a loving and supportive home, cherishing 56 years of marriage before her passing. Their bond was a testament to the strength of their love. David retired from General Motors in 1992, having worked diligently throughout his career. In his many years of retirement, he enjoyed time with his family, traveling, fishing, hunting and woodworking.
He is survived by his children, Kimberly McKellar, Kelly (John) Warren, and David (Kelly) Simpson Jr.; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Virginia Churchill and Donald (Carla) Simpson.
David was preceded in death by his wife, Claudia; daughter, Nadine; granddaughter, Tiffany; and brothers, Robert and Dick.
David will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his family, his generous heart, and his enduring strength. His legacy lives on in the lives of those he touched and the family he loved so deeply.
The family will receive visitors from 11-1 PM on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Avram Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 1 PM at Avram Funeral Home.
Burial will take place in North Grove Cemetery with Military Honors.
