CARTER, Edward Burton – Of Fenton, age 84, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, faithful servant of the Lord and Veteran of the Korean War, died Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at McLaren-Flint.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon Friday, July 7, 2017 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Stephen Anthony and Pastor Don Bennett co-officiating.
Burial at Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. Friday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Edward was born in Flint, Michigan on August 30, 1932.
On March 28, 1953 he married Donna Mansfield.
He served in the Nazarene Church as a board member, usher, Sunday school teacher and coached basketball and baseball church leagues.
He loved sports, was an avid sports fan, enjoyed playing baseball, softball and golf.
He played baseball for Asbury College and tried out for the St. Louis Cardinals, but was drafted for the Korean War.
He was recipient of the Bronze Star, for valor.
Mr. Carter was employed by Fisher Body as an Electrician for 37 ½ years.
Surviving are wife, Donna Carter;
son, Craig and wife Diane Carter;
daughters, Lori and husband Edward Starnes,
Patti and husband Gary Queen;
grandchildren, Eric (Kara) Queen, Nicole (Dan) Allard, Sarah (Jeremy) Swartz, Michael (Janelle) Carter, Jeffrey (Jessica) Carter, Steven (Elizabeth) Starnes and Emily (Randy) Koehn;
15 great-grandchildren;
siblings, Evelyn Carter, Frank and Delores Carter, Margaret and Robert Craton, Robert and Cheri Carter.
He was preceded in death by parents, William and Emogene Carter; brothers, Jimmy, William, Fred and George Carter.
