DELANEY, John L. “Captain Jack” - Of Grand Blanc, age 89 died Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Genesys Hospice Care Center in Goodrich.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:30 am Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 11824 South Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc,
Father Ken Coughlin officiating.
Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery with a military graveside service under the auspices of the Marine Corps League Flint Detachment #155 Honor Guard.
Visitation 3-8pm Sunday and 11am-2pm and 4-8pm Monday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Rosary will be prayed 7pm Monday evening at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Michigan State University Spartan Fund.
John was born in Lowell, Massachusetts on November 7, 1922, the son of the late Leon and Annie (Donahue) Delaney. John served in the United States Navy during World War II. On May 8, 1948, he married Phyllis Topolinski at St. Johns Catholic Church in Davison. John was a commercial airline pilot for United Airlines, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and also attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Morris and All Saints in Flint.
Surviving are wife Phyllis “Jean”;
children, James and wife Linda of Grand Blanc, Robert and wife Judy of Buffalo Grove, IL, Kathleen Delaney of Grand Blanc, Joseph and wife Donna of Grand Blanc and Joan Delaney of Ferndale, MI;
grandchildren, Kelley, Kara, Ryan, Jill, Michael and John;
sister, Esther and husband George Jaksa of Flushing;
several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Joseph H. and sister, Sister Ann Miriam.
