Ralph Lewis Weikle was born June 8, 1931 in Pontiac, to Samuel and Burgle (White) Weikle, the youngest of their 7 children. Ralph grew up farming with his father in the Pontiac area and in early 1954, he purchased his own farm in Byron. On November 27, 1954, he married Barbara Graham during a ceremony in that very farmhouse. He often shared with people that he lived in the same house for 70 years, the same house he and Barbara were married in. Ralph was a farmer at heart raising various crops and livestock over his lifetime. In addition, he worked for Genesee County Drain Commission for 25 years, retiring in 1993.
Ralph enjoyed farming, pheasant hunting, traveling to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, going for drives, getting frozen custard, his cats, Spot and Petey, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Lions. He attended many sporting events to watch his elder granddaughters compete in basketball, volleyball, and track. He loved going to the Shiawassee County Fairgrounds, usually to watch his children and later his granddaughters participate in various 4H activities and horse riding competitions. Ralph recently attended the Roosevelt High School Reunion in Keego Harbor, having graduated from there in 1950. People remember him as a kind, hardworking, and generous man.
Ralph is survived by his children, Judy Weikle, Cindy (Ed) Heator, Sam Weikle and Angie Wolverton; grandchildren, Shelby, Mackenzie, Macy, Alexandra, Seth, Sammy and Kasee; great grandchildren, Leum, Hazelle, Sabelle and Dallas; sister, Betty Betzing; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Weikle; son, Matthew Weikle; siblings, Estelle, James, Waldo, Margie and Bob.
Memorial Contributions in Ralph's name are suggested to the Shiawassee County Fair. Online condolences may be shared at www.watkinsfuneralhomes.com |
