HOPPER, Denzel Hugh – Of Davison, age 72, passed away Friday, December 28, 2018.
A celebration of his life will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Steve Wood officiating.
Visitation 2 p.m. Saturday until the time of service at the funeral home.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Humane Society of Genesee County or to VFW Davison Post #4087.
Denzel was born in Huntington Park, California on May 5, 1946, the son of the late George Hugh and Edna (Elder) Hopper. Denzel graduated from Southwestern High School class of 1964. He proudly served two tours of duty as a Sergeant in Vietnam for the U.S. Army. Denzel worked at General Motors Flint Truck and Bus for 48 years. On June 12, 1981 he married the love of his life, Dorothy (Willard) Hutchinson.
Denzel was very knowledgeable in history and military aircrafts. He enjoyed photography, swimming and riding his bike. He also had a passion for 50’s music. He loved his cats, Samson and Jasmine. Denzel was known by everyone as the gentle giant. He was very invested in his grandchildren’s sports and family activities.
Surviving are wife, Dorothy Hopper;
children, David Hugh (Michelle) Hopper, Kelly Hutchinson, Kasey (Tim) McWain and Adam (Kristin) Hopper;
grandchildren, Maegan Hopper, Derek Hugh Hopper, Taylor Spencer, Tanner (Megan) McWain, Colton McWain and Taelyn McWain;
3 great-grandchildren;
special friends, The Amato Family
and too many other friends and cousins to mention.
He was preceded in death by his parents and later adoptive parents, Ava and Homer Hopper.
