Michael E. Sexton, age 75, of National City, Michigan formerly of Byron, Michigan passed away unexpectedly June 22, 2020 at home.
Mike was born April 26, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Robert Edward and Frances “Betty” Elizabeth (Jones) Sexton. He graduated from St. Theresa Catholic High School in Detroit, Michigan. Mike worked as an elevator mechanic for Mid American Elevator for 30 years, retiring in 1997 and then moved to National City to enjoy watching the river, fishing, feeding and watching the wildlife surrounding their home.
Mike enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and served during the Vietnam War from 1965-1969. He obtained the rank of E5 and was honorably discharged as combat decorated. On July 14, 1967, Mike married the former Norma Guy in Detroit, Michigan and although he was still serving our country in the Coast Guard, they began their family raising two sons, Tim and Jeff.
Mike was a member of the American Legion in Hale, Michigan and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Byron, Michigan.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Norma; sons, Tim and Dawn Sexton of Swartz Creek, Michigan and Jeff and Colette Sexton of Commerce Township, Michigan; grandchildren Tyler Sexton, Trevor Sexton, Jordan Sexton, Madelyn Hamilton and McKenzie Sexton; great grandson, Orville “Bo” Hamilton V; sisters, Diane and Suzanne; special friend that was always more like a brother, Raymond Young; nephews, Brian, Tom, and Dan; nieces, Diane and Amy; and numerous friends.
Private services have been held. Mike will be laid to rest in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan with military honors at a later date. Online condolences may be offered at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com |
