Bruce Alfred Popovits, 85, of Flushing, MI passed away on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019 at home with his family and devoted wife Muriel by his side. Bruce was born at home in Flint, Mi to John and Agnes Popovits, on November 28, 1933 during a snowstorm. He was several months premature, weighing only 2lbs 10 oz. He wasn’t expected to live through the night, but he beat the odds and lived a long and healthy life. Eventually marrying his high school sweetheart, Muriel Morrison in 1956 and raising five children.
Bruce served in the US Navy for several years before joining the family business, Popovits Sand and Gravel with his father John and his brother Jack. The business served the community for over 75 years. He hauled sand and gravel to many contractors in the area for over 40 years, enjoying every mile of it. Bruce and Muriel took many wonderful road trips all over the country with their children and dear friends John and Donna Meyka.
Bruce was a family man, a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Muriel Popovits of 62 years, children Karen (Jeff) Herriman, John (Karen) Popovits, Mary Ann Cobleigh and Ruthanne Abbott. He has twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jack, sister Lois, and daughter Janet.
Funeral will be held Monday, February 25th at 12pm at Rossell Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday from 3-8pm and Monday 11am until time of service. In Lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the American Lung Association.
