SMORCH, Leonard Donald - Of Fenton, age 82, died peacefully at home Sunday, November 19, 2017.
A Memorial Service will be held 2pm Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Visitation 11am Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to the American Red Cross-Apheresis Program specific.
Leonard was born in Flint on October 3, 1935, the son of Frank and Hazel Smorch. He served in the United States Army and earned Soldier of the Month. On August 27, 1983, he married Linda Metcalf in Flint and she preceded him in death on September 17, 1994. Leonard earned his Master’s Degree from the University of Michigan. He was a CPA and was employed with Coopers-Lybrand Accounting, Anderson Safeway Guardrail (Flint) and retired as Controller for Genesee County. He was a member of the Genesee-Lapeer County Chapter of the American Red Cross, and was an Apheresis Donor for many years. Leonard was a passionate U of M fan and a member of the U of M Alumni Association. He enjoyed attending the events of his grandchildren. Leonard was a longtime supporter of Flint and Genesee County. He was proud of his father, who is a member of the Flint Area Sports Hall of Fame.
Surviving are son, Ashley Smorch and his children, Alex Smorch, Jonathan and wife Tiffany Smorch;
son, Chris and wife Michalene Smorch and their children, Corrine and husband Marcus Matheson, and their son, Jace Matheson, Matthew Smorch, Eric Smorch, Neil Smorch;
son, Terrance Smorch;
son, Matthew and wife Stacey Smorch and their children, Zachary Smorch and Ashlyn Smorch.
