James Wallace "Wally" Powell
Age 80 of Owosso passed away Saturday, December 31, 2016 at peacefully at his residence in the morning.
Funeral services will be held 11am Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Brother Eugene Rivers officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6 to 8pm and Wednesday from 2 to 8pm.
Wally was born January 30, 1936 in Redford Township, the son of Roger and Letha (Hancock) Powell.
He graduated from Redford High School and was active with the U.A.W. and L.D.S. church. Wally enjoyed carpentry and woodworking; he especially liked making bird houses, Christmas sleighs and coat racks.
On November 12, 1977 he married Carole Sundquist Maughan and her three children which whom he loved and egarly adopted.
Wally retried from General Motors after 33 years as a tool and die maker.
He is survived by his wife Carole; children Heather (Jeffrey Bryant) Powell, Rachael (Wayne) McIntyre, David (Erin) Powell, Jennie (Scott) McReynolds and Kim (Matt) Watroba; 14 grandchildren; brothers Arnold and Robert Powell; many nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.
Wally was predeceased by his son Michael Powell, his parents, brothers Marvin and Jerry and sister Etta Jean.
