David Franklin Atherton of Davison age 79, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday December 21, 2014. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon Monday December 29, 2014, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church 404 Dayton St. Davison. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski, Celebrant, with Rite of Committal at New Calvary Cemetery. Family will receive visitors from 1-4 and 6-8pm Sunday at the funeral home. A parish scripture service will be held at 6:30 pm Sunday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Atherton will lie in state from 11:00 am Monday until time of services at the church. Those desiring may make contributions in David’s memory to the Genesee County Humane Society. David was born in Flint Michigan on November 9, 1935 the son of the late: William & Zora (Prince) Atherton, and has resided in the Davison area since 1971. He was joined in marriage to Celia Mary Jimenez on September 12, 1959 at St. Matthew Catholic Church Flint, and she preceded him in death on August 13, 2011. David had been an active member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where served as an usher for many years. Answering the call of his country David served in the US Army, and had been employed by General Motors Buick Division from over 29 years retiring in 1994. After Dave’s retirement he pursued being a volunteer at the Sloan Museum’s Buick Automotive Gallery assisting in the restoration and upkeep of their vehicles. He also loved to attend all the local car shows where he proudly displayed his 1966 Olds Cutlass 442, especially at the Davison Main St. Car Cruise. He leaves to cherish his memory: daughter Deborah Atherton, son Scott (Donna) Atherton, and his grandchildren Chase, Tyler, Samantha, and his friend Justin. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by Brother Larry Atherton.
