Amazingly kind, loving, eccentric, strong and beautiful.
Surrounded by those she loved, Mary took her last breath Saturday, October 26, 2019. She confronted Alzheimer’s during the last several years of life with bravery and humility -- yet this condition never dulled her amplified self.
Born August 9, 1934 -- Mary grew up in Flint, Michigan, graduated from Davison High School and attended college to extend her knowledge. And like many pioneering women before her, she artfully balanced a career, relationships, care for her aging parents, children and a home. She started up a professional uniform company with her mother. Later in life she transitioned to Meijer where she was known as a supportive, mother figure to many of the younger staff members.
Family was everything. To the last moment of consciousness, she adored the companionship, conversations and memories of compassionate children Danny Anderson, Dana Anderson Murphy and David Anderson -- accomplished and adventurous granddaughters Danielle and Shannon Harbin -- curious and empathetic great-granddaughter Lillian Rose -- devoted husband and caregiver Jim Woodyard -- kind and gifted father of her three children Harvey Anderson – hip and contemporary parents Fern and John Stowers – sister Marjorie Tessner and brothers Denton, Don and Jon Stowers -- sisters in-law Mary, Karen, Doreen, Pearl, Carol, Lillian, Ester, Ella, Joyce, Tiffany and 3 Lindas -- brothers-in law Ted, Ervin, Floyd, Jonny, Jack and 2 Bobbys -- son-in law Bob -- father of her grandchildren Jim -- special family members Clara Mae and Carrie -- several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles -- close friends Barbara, Marvin, Dorothy, Ron, Fran, Denton, Sandi, Jerry, Margo, Elaine and Andrea -- the Tenerelli, Stein, Alvado, Hagen and Calvin neighbors -- and of course her sensitive, lap-loving, protective dogs Puppy, Chi-Chi and Chance.
Without pain and confusion, she brightly lives on through her family and friends.
And in lieu of flowers, Mary would want you to hug someone in need; look into a child’s eyes and say I see you; adopt a vulnerable animal; or make a contribution to the Animal Humane Society or animal rescue of choice.
