Elasivich, Leona A. of Flushing, age 81, died Sunday, April 7, 2019, at McLaren-Flint. Funeral Liturgy will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 11, 2019, at St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church. The Very Rev. Fr. James J. Batcha will officiate. Burial will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Wednesday at Rossell Funeral Home and 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church until the time of the Liturgy. A Parastas will be 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church.
Leona was born in Flint, Michigan on April 23, 1937, the fourth of 10 children of Michael and Jennie (Gala) Mandrick. She married Peter Elasivich on May 4, 1963 at St. Michael Byzantine Church in Flint and together they raised four children and worked on the family farm. Peter preceded her in death on March 13, 2016, after 52 years of marriage. Leona enjoyed puzzles, crosswords, crocheting and playing bingo. Her and her husband loved polka dancing and visiting casinos. She loved baking and making traditional dishes of her Slavic heritage.
Leona is survived by her children, Andy, Deborah (Jeff) Morgan, Teresa (Steve) Phillips, Ron (Melinda) Elasivich; grandchildren, Alex, Devin, Karsyn, Jake, Rachel (Brian), Alix (Kevin) Hayward; great-grandchildren, Brody, Brennan, Jackson, Kate; and siblings, Mike (Rosemary) Mandrick, Pat Mandrick, Michaline (Reid) Vandevelde. She was also preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Dorothy, Leo, Ginger, Mary Jane, Nancy and Joanne.
