Grace Norma (David) Ruzicka was born on September 2, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of the late Norman and Fannie (Joseph) David. She graduated from Flint Central High School in 1951 and completed the RN program at the Nazareth School of Nursing in 1954. She went on to become a Head Nurse in Labor and Delivery at St. Joseph Hospital in Flint, Michigan, helping to deliver 1000’s of babies. When St. Joseph created the Family Health Center, she was selected to be the Head Nurse, watching over not only the patients who were treated there, but the medical residents who were completing their rotations in family practice. After retiring from St. Joseph in 1994, Grace spent the next 10 years working in the Oncology Department at Hurley Medical Center and as a part-time nurse at Wheelock Hospital in Goodrich, Michigan. Nursing truly was her passion.
In 1956, Grace married John James Ruzicka and he preceded her in death in 2003. She is survived by her six children, John (Jeanine) Ruzicka, Debra Ruzicka, Diane (Ron) Lane, Dolores (Dave) Hazel, Doris (Steve) Ethier and Frank (Julie) Ruzicka; 15 grandchildren, Melissa Ruzicka, Matthew Ruzicka, Michael Ruzicka, Frank (Karla) Ruzicka, Sarah Ruzicka, David (Tony) Bannasch-Ruzicka, Lindsey (Mitch) Gilbert, Kelly (Stephen) O’Brien, Steven Ethier, Christopher (Paula) Lane, Jessica (Andy) Whitehead, Jacob Lane, Katie Hazel, Kelly Hazel and Tony Hazel; 9 great-grandchildren, Carter, Alek, Ana, Adelaide, Evelyn, Marshall, Dolly, Levi and Jonathan; she also leaves behind her beloved dogs, Sammy and Rosie; many other loving family members and friends.
