KANKULA, Edith Joy - Of Melvindale, age 88, died Friday, October 6, 2017 at Kith Haven Nursing Home.
Memorial Luncheon Tuesday, October 24, 11am at Flint Association of the Deaf, 4156 Holiday Drive, Flint, MI. 48507, Followed by inurnment of Edith & Paul together at: Michigan Memorial Park
32163 Huron River Drive, Flat Rock, MI 48134.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to FDSC (Flint Deaf Senior Citizens).
Family & close friends will be invited to select Salt & Pepper shaker set(s) for keepsakes.
Edith was born on March 10, 1929, the daughter of John Wesley and Senia (Spears) Carter. She graduated from Michigan School for the Deaf in 1948. Edith married Burton Paul in 1952 in Melvindale, Michigan and he preceded her in death in 1998. She was a member of Silent Assembly of God in Redford, Michigan. Later in life Edith attended Lighthouse Chapel of the Deaf in Flint. She attended Taylor Deaf Senior Group and Flint Association of Deaf Senior Citizens. Edith enjoyed arts and crafts and had a passion for collecting salt and pepper shakers and was also an avid card player.
Surviving are brother, George Washington Carter of Fort Myers, Florida;
sister-in-law, Marie Carter of Dearborn, Michigan the wife of the late H. John Carter;
many nieces, nephews and great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Delbert Carter Sr., H. John Carter and Jeremiah Paul Carter and sisters, Irene Weinkauf, Kitty Mansfield, and Ruth “Bunnie” Bard.
