Richard Duane "Dick" Gillings, age 85, of Davison, formerly of Flint and Prescott, passed away at his home on Friday, May 4, 2018. He was born on April 9, 1933 on the family farm in Prescott to Harlow & Esther (Hall) Gillings. He graduated from Sterling High School in 1951. He married Helen Norton on July 3, 1954. Dick was drafted into the US Army in 1954 where he served in Germany. He also served in the reserves until 1962. He worked for General Motors in Flint at the Truck & Bus Plant until he retired in 1985. Dick loved to hunt, fish and enter canoe races. He enjoyed traveling with Helen, going to the casinos and playing dice. He loved spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. At one time he coached his grandson Dillon's baseball team and that year they won the championship. Dick was a generous and loving man with a positive attitude. He thoroughly enjoyed telling stories. He was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church in Davison and the VFW Post in Burton.
Dick is survived by his daughter, Jennie (Dave) Welliver of Davison; son, Rick Gillings of Prescott; grandchildren, Eric (Ashley)Mulcahy of East Lansing, Bridget (Matt) Dipzinski of Grand Blanc, Amanda Welliver of Davison, Dillon Welliver of Davison, Mindy Elrod of Lincoln; great grandchidren, Alexis & Sebashton Carpenter and Mila & Cooper Dipzinski; brother, Robert (Connie) Gillings of Oscoda; cousin, Jerry (Velda) Hall of prescott, many nieces & nephews; special friends, Richard & Donna Eymer, Larry & Janet Eymer; great neighbors, Dan, Shawn, Glenda and Marcie. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Helen in 2011; son, Kent in 1961; brothers, William in 2007 and Harlow in 2015.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Buresh Funeral Home in Prescott. The service will be held at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with his nephew, Gary Gillings officiating. Interment will follow at the Richland Township Cemetery in Prescott.
