Lakosky, Lila “Maxine” of Flushing, age 85, died Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at the Hospice House of Shiawassee County. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, October 20, 2016, at Rossell Funeral Home. Fr. Mike Depcik and Fr. Bosco Padamattummal will officiate. Private burial will take place at Inwood Township Cemetery in Cooks, Michigan. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 2 p.m. Thursday until the time of the service at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice House of Shiawassee County or the Flint Association of the Deaf, Senior Citizens.
Lila was born in Hunter, Arkansas on August 10, 1931, the daughter of Ona and Bessie (Files) Woodward. She married Harold Lakosky on November 23, 1968. He preceded her in death on June 13, 2006. Lila was a member of the former St. Mark's Deaf Catholic Church and currently Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 23 years where she was one of the first of two deaf mail carriers. Lila was a member of the Flint Association of the Deaf Women's Auxiliary for 62 years, served on the board of CAC, Communication Access Center and also volunteered at Woodhaven Senior Community. She enjoyed playing games, especially card games, doing puzzles, and playing and watching sports. Her greatest joy was her family and loved family gatherings.
She is survived by her children, Deborah and husband Steven Harp of Montrose, Daniel and wife Roxie Stevens of Olive Branch, MS, Melissa and husband Brian Smith of Flushing; grandchildren, Ryan and wife Adelia, Erik, Mikayla, Kaitlyn; great-granchildren, Colton, Alyse; brothers, Henry Woodward, Bill Woodward; sister, Alice and husband Bob Biddulph; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her four brothers.
