SCANLON, Lawrence Joseph – of Montrose, age 93, died Saturday, March 2, 2019 at McLaren – Flint. Funeral service will be held 3PM, Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. Pastor Bob Leming officiating. Burial to follow in Montrose Township Cemetery. Family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1PM until the time of service at 3PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Montrose Athletics.

Lawrence was born October 9, 1925 in Saginaw County, Michigan to the late Joseph and Esther (Larkin) Scanlon. He attended Montrose High School. Lawrence married Ella-Jean Wager on October 5, 1948 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She preceded him in death on January 11, 1995. He retired from General Motors in 1980 with 37 years seniority and was a member of UAW Local #659. Lawrence attended Montrose Family Worship Center. In his earlier years he enjoyed going to his parents for Sunday dinner and playing cards. He was very involved with administrative committees for his son’s cub scout activities and little league baseball. Lawrence also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool, bowling, and blooper ball. He cherished going to the casino and camping at the county park in Lake City, Michigan.

Surviving are: Sons: Larry (Diane) Scanlon and Jerry Scanlon; Son-in-law, Steve Denniston; Longtime friend, Phyllis Clark and family; Grandchildren: Luke (Heidi) Scanlon, Brian Scanlon, John (Billie-Jo) Scanlon, Laura Scanlon, Valerie Scanlon, Randie Baker, Tonie (David) Baker-Slepica, B-Jay (Annie) Baker, Makayla Denniston, and Breanna Denniston; Many great grandchildren; Brother, Dale Scanlon; Sisters: Bernice Clark, Doris Allen, Irene (Jack) Buck, and Marge (William) Schweitzer; Sister-in-law, Caroline Scanlon; Numerous nieces, nephews, and all of his wonderful neighbors. He was also preceded in death by: Son, Joe Scanlon; Daughter, Judy Denniston; Brother, Maurice Scanlon; Infant sister, Eva Scanlon; Brothers-in-law: Robert Clark and Dallas Allen. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at Gross Assisted Living, especially Arlissa Shanfelt, Rachel Sulla and Tammy Beavers from McLaren Hospice for their compassionate care of Lawrence during his final days.
