Age 59 of Owosso passed away Friday, November 29, 2013.
Funeral services will be held 11am Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Connection Christian Church in Owosso with Pastor Kevin Maginity officiating. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Thursday from 6 to 8pm and Friday 2 to 8pm.
Russell Lester Conklin was born November 17, 1954 in Lancashire, England, to Richard and Brenda (Rumens) Conklin.
The son of an American father and an English mother, Russell’s parents came to Michigan where Russ was raised and had dual English / American citizenship until he was twenty-one years old. Russ graduated from Owosso High School, class of 1973 and married Patricia Ann Culver on August 26, 2000 at Owosso St. Johns United Church of Christ.
Russ had a quick smile and a ready willingness to listen and make friends quickly. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, tending his livestock, and taking long drives in the countryside. He was a pioneering member of the Flint NA organization and brought meetings to Owosso. Russ enjoyed listening to music and the classic rock vinyl record collection he began preserving as a teenager.
He attended the Connection Church where Celebrate Recovery has drawn many people together in celebration of new life and renewal and the changes that can take place where there is meaningful hope and transformation. His faith in Christ was joyously infectious and wanted others to know the real peace and joy of the Lord that had changed his life. He survived three heart attacks over the last eight years and finally succumbed to liver cancer after fighting the good fight and passed away at home in peace and dignity into the arms of his Savior, with family by his side . Faith and family were most important to Russell. He is deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Russ was employed with Danek's Ice for more than 20 years as a faithful driver and deliveryman.
Russell is survived by his wife and best friend Patricia; children Zachary Corral, Ryan (Nikki) Conklin, Vanessa Conklin and Joseph Doherty; special friend Susan Conklin; grandchildren Kevin and Madison Conklin; sister Sherrie (Davis) Etheridge; brothers Michael Conklin and Richard Conklin; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles and other loving family and friends; special niece Destiny.
He was predeceased by his parents and brother Paul Conklin.
