Gusie, Bonnie Jean – My beautiful wife, our mother, and dear friend, peacefully passed away in her home on Friday, November 8th. She went to heaven as gently as she lived her life. Bonnie was born to Richard and Ella Mae Finch in September of 1937. As a child, she was content to curl up with a book in a quiet place. She loved to go to the library and spot the book mobile as it came to the neighborhood. Bonnie traveled playing the marimba with her sister, Patricia and enjoyed many outings with her family. She met the love of her life, Carl Gusie, at Bentley High School. They married in 1956 and were together for 57 years. While raising their children, Brad and Wendy, she provided the calm, quiet strength for all of us. Bonnie was known to make wonderful picnic lunches to go to the lake, camping or skiing. No one could match her homemade potato salad and baked goods. Her award winning pies were delicious and picturesque. Bonnie was a great cook and shared her delicious meals with her friends and people going through difficult times. She was a beautiful artist in knitting, cross stitching, and crocheting. The family spent many wonderful years together at Drummond Island. Life will never be the same without her. She always put her needs aside for her family to have a great life. Bonnie began her working career as a soda jerk for Sealy’s Drug Store. She also worked at Superior Pontiac and then served as Deputy Clerk and Assistant Controller for the City of Burton. Upon retirement in 1986, she continued enjoying her family, cooking and reading. She loved a quiet day at home, to go out and do a little shopping and Friday nights at the Flint Elks Club. She served others selflessly in the community. Bonnie served as a den mother, “the” neighborhood mother, elections coordinator at Bentley High School, member of the American Business Women’s Association, actively raised contributions for the American Diabetes Association, received awards and service recognition for over 20 years of service and is a lifetime member for Ducks Unlimited. Bonnie was a member of the Davison United Methodist Church, 207 E. Third St., Davison, where a service in her honor will be held on Saturday, November 30th at 11:00 AM. You may visit with family and friends from 10:00-11:00 AM prior to the service. Bonnie will be deeply missed by her husband Carl, children and their spouses, Brad and Amy Gusie, Marc and Wendy Hunt-Joppich; grandchildren, Ryan and Courtney Gusie, Josh Larkin, Justin and Jeromy Hunt and Kristina Mattis. Many friends will also miss her sweet smile and acts of kindness. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the Shriner Children’s Hospital in her honor or the American Diabetes Association.
