JAROU, Margaret - Of Flint, age 84, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Genesys Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, MI. Reverend Paul Ytterock officiating. Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery.
Visitation: 2-4 and 6-8p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Margaret was born in Detroit, MI, on February 20, 1927. She was the daughter of the late John and Edna Berry. Margaret loved music and as a teenager was awarded a scholarship to Interlochen Academy. She also sang regularly on the radio while in Traverse City, MI.
On June 25, 1949, Margaret married her loving husband, Edward Jarou. Mrs. Jarou was an accomplished singer and soloist. She sang with the choir at First Presbyterian Church, Flint Symphonic Chorus and was a soloist in many churches throughout the Flint area. She also sang on different occasions for Mrs. Ruth Mott. Margaret had many featured parts in operas, but the performance that thrilled her the most was that of soprano soloist with the Flint Symphonic Chorus, and Flint Symphony on Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony under the direction of Mr. William Byrd.
Margaret leaves behind her husband of 65 years, Edward Jarou of Flint; children, Jamelee (Bill) Ryckman of Davison, John Jarou of Flint, Jim (Ramona) Jarou of Linden and Jonathan Jarou of Fenton; grandchildren, Mary Ann Jarou of Queens, NY, Jessica Jarou of Los Angeles, CA, Joseph Jarou of Flushing, Zachary Jarou of Lansing, Barbara Ryckman and Dean Ryckman both of Albuquerque, NM.
